RILA MOUNTAIN - it is the highest mountain both in Bulgaria and on the whole Balkan Peninsula, renowned for its highest mount - Moussala (2925m) and Malyovitsa - the symbol of Bulgarian alpinism and its 219 mountain lakes that attract so many tourists. There are over 2000 different plant species in Rila mountain, as well as a very rich wildlife. The most magnificent of all Bulgarian mountains is the home of the country's most famous monastery - the Rila monastery and the oldest winter resort - Borovets.
PIRIN MOUNTAIN - is the second highest mountain in Bulgaria. Its climate is typically mountainous with plenty of sunny days. There are about sixty peaks higher than 2500 m in Pirin mountain, the highest one being Vihren (2914m), 176 mountain lakes, most of them glacial, 100 plant species, including edelweiss and Baykusheva fir, which is almost 1300 years old. In Pirin mountain you can also find spa centre Sandanski and the most modern ski resort Bansko.
STARA PLANINA (the BALKAN RANGE) - this is the longest Balkan range that has given the name to the peninsula - the Balkan Penisnula. It crosses the country from border to border and its 700km-long ridge offers routes for numerous tourist excursions. The highest mount - Botev (2376m) - has steep rocks that attract climbers and peak Kom is a real challenge for them. Vratsata is yet another option for climbing. There are intriguing caves, suitable for tourism, mountaineering and caving/speleology. In this mountain, you can find remarkable monasteries - Troyan, Drianovo, Kapinovo Monasteries, etc.; as well as picturesque towns and villages preserved as open-air museums of the Bulgarian National Revival - Kotel, Jeravna, Triavna, Arbanasi, Bojenci, Etara.
RHODOPE MOUNTAIN - the mountain with spectacular nature. It is the greenest and most picturesque Bulgarian mountain, in which the legend for the mythical musician Orpheus was born. Even the climate, which is subject to Mediterranean influences, favours tourism in this magical mountain - summer is long with a lot of sunshine, while winter is white with plenty of snow.
Unique folklore, hospitable people and superb food. The biggest ski resort - Pamporovo - is situated in the Rhodope moutain and the climate enables having a thick snow cover for a long time - real heaven for skiers.
You can also see the awesome gorges of Trigrad and Buynovo, the rock phenomenon "Miraculous Bridges", caves Snejanka, Uhlovitsa, Devil's Throat, Yagodina. Numerous villages - architectural reserves - such as Shiroka Laka, Kovachevitsa, Dolen, Momcholvtsi, are nestled in the Rhodope mountain.
